Default Want to paint canvas shoes but not sure what kind of paint to use...

Anyone out there paint canvas shoes? I know you should use fabric paint but what kind do you use? Do you use a paint brush or the pens? And I read something about sealing them. I saw some adorable ones on Etsy and I think I might be able to do it too. Of course, it might look easier than it really is. As so many things in life are.

I have painted some-I use the paint from Ben Franklin for t-shirts-I use a brush so it gets down in the fabric of the shoe-I also spray them afterwards with a sealer so they can be washed. anita

What sealer do you use? I've used acrylic paint and sprayed with clear spray paint but I know there is a much better way.

I have actually used both kinds-the last I used was the spray I found in the shoe department at walmart for waterproofing-it worked great-I'm at work or I would look and see the name brand-

NEVER use just acrylic paint. If you are using a fabric product, use fabric paint even with a sealer acrylic just wont do. Fabric paint is made to move and bend with whatever it's painted on (which is what you want when painting shoes) Acrylic will just break and washing? forget about it.

Use a fabric paint (or acrylic/fabric medium mix) then you can seal it with mod podge. It can go through the washer and dryer and still maintain the image you painted.

Mod podge gets hard, wouldn't it break and crack too?
Would fabric paint and mod podge work on the insides of flip flops too, or would it just wear off?
Thanks!
