Default Flat ribbon question

I have been looking at a lot of pictures of bows on here and other sites and a lot of bows have flat pieces of ribbon layered under the boutique bows. How do you do that and make them stay at an angle or straight up and down when you tie them off. Is there a link somewhere with directions?

I am to tired to look for a link but basically you lay your pieces of ribbon in and "x" and or "+" shape and crease the middle just like a bow then layer them under your bow, add as many or as few as you like HTH and I am sure someone else will help more but that should get you started!

I don't know where there are any free instructions on this bow.

I do what the above poster does as well. You may need to practice with it first. I know when I first did it the spikes were not even. You can make your X angle long and skinny. Layer it before you put it together so you know where you want the spikes to be.

I purchased instructions to master this. But that is just me. I bought Sweet Baby Bowtique instructions and they are good for the basic beginner. Then I purchased TOTTs and those instructions were awesome!

You can take a 1.5 inch piece 6 to 7 inches long put on it a 7/8 in pc in a coordinating color then a 3/8 one on it. Tie a center and cut the ends in an inverted V and seal. Put those on top of a base bow. You can also add two 7/8 inch pieces in an X and put them on top. Then place a slightly smaller bow on that. Tie all together and make a center. They call them spikes. Maybe you can look that word up.

One hint in addition to what others have said: cut your spikes overly long until your bow is finished, then trim. It is easy to shorten, impossible to lengthen!!

Thanks ladies. I am just beginning and don't have much time to make as many bows as I would like. I love reading all the neat ideas and shopping for ribbon. I am going to try to do the spikes tonight if my little one stays asleep. Wish me luck.
