Default What size ribbon do you use for your centers?

I read a few ppl say they mainly use 3/8 ribbon for their centers but if you have a big, layered boutique bow (like lotsa layers) will 3/8 be strong enough to hold it all? Thanks.

I had been using some 5/8 and 7/8 and folded it in half when gluing onto the clip but it makes the clip too bulky and it won't close all the way. Still learning. I'm glad I found this forum!!

I use whatever the top bow is made out of. if the top bow on hte stack is 7/8, I fold it in half, make my knot, and burn the ends with my woodburner. If it is 1 1/2", I do hte same with that. HTH!!

I range from 3/8 to 1 1/2 inch depending on what look I'm going for......I like big chunky bows on my daughter so this a.m., I made a bow to go with the outfit she's wearing to church........used 1 1/2 inch for the center on it because it was going on a 3 inch headband so i wanted the chunky look.....If it's a smaller bow, I use 3/8......

But doesn't it make the clip too bulky to close? How do you get around that problem? Thanks.

I don't have a problem with it. Are you using a wood burner to seal the halves together?? (if that makes sense). It makes them nicea nd flat. If I don't seal the ends with a woodburner, they do tend to bulk a touch and they don't lay as nicely.

I think your problem is you are taking your center ribbon around your clip... Alot of ppl dont do that they make the bow center and all then attach the bow to the clip using hot glue.

I used to use a lighter to seal all of my edges, but then the lovely ladies here talked me into getting a woodburner. You can use it to cut all of your edges and it seals wonderfully!! I found with the lighter, my ends owuld fray after some use. I have had no problems with my ends sealed with the woodbuner. I use a metal ruler as a guide and "cut" on a piece of glass that I stole out of a 8 x 10 cheapie picture frame I bought from teh $$ store.

To cut my ribbon, I lay it on the glass, line my ruler on it wherever I want my 'cut' and run the woodburner along the edge of the ruler. A perfect cut and seal in one swipe!! And do the same for the ends of your knot. It seals the two halves together so they don't come apart!

Also use the search option on here and search woodburner. You will find LOTS of helpful threads!!
HTH!

Oooooh! So, they make the bow and the center by itself and glue the finished bow onto the clip? And it stays on??

I do wrap mine around my clip. I feel it gives more stability. I don't feel like it is "secure" if I only glue the clip to the bow. the wrap around makes me feel like it will stay better.
