Default How tight do you tie off your bow?

Okay, so I am fairly new to hair bow making and am trying to perfect my creases. How tight do you tie off the bow with? And I've read many ppl use upholstery thread. Do you just get that in the thread aisle? I've been using regular thread and floral wire. Not sure which I like better yet. Thanks.

Sandy

I use elastic thread. I used to sew them but then I read somewhere to use elastic thread because you can adjust your loops to make them even and ever since then I use elastic thread and I love it!

I use dental floss & also upholstery thread. You get it with the regular thread, it is just much heavier. I have actually been breaking the dental floss so I have been using the thread more lately.

I am still pretty new. I started with wire-decided I did not like putting wire on my girl's heads. Moved to embroidery thread and sewing. I tried regular thread, but kept breaking it. I read in one of Michelle's instructions about the elastic thread and bought some. I love it. It makes it so much easier to adjust your bows. It was very inexpensive. I bought mine at walmart for $1.20? for 30 yards. Depending on the bow- I will use both.

ok I am gonna sound like a nut but I have been sewing for years and I am not sure what you all are talking about when you say elastic thread? Could you please give me the exact name and tell me where i might find this and also do you thread it in a needle?

It took me awhile to find it and I was way wrong about the yardage it's only 30 yards. Sorry bad typing skills. It's just called elastic sewing thread. It comes in a plastic package. I found it in the same section where you would find elastic, velcro, etc.... I just started using it and practiced with tuxedo bows. I just wrapped it and tied it off to start with. I have not tried it with needle and thread. I hope I made sense.

I really liked the elastic thread because of the adjusting option but it would always break when I would tighten it. So I am using uphostery thread now.

Okay, so you are making it really tight I am guessing since some of you are breaking your thread? Do you tie it as tight as humanly possible??

Thanks for all your responses.

Button thread, it is really strong and I can pull really tight! It is with the other thread.

I stitch, then wrap and tie. The tightness varies according to what I'm making ~ basically what looks 'right'.
