Default Is she using a regular brad for these?

I was trolling around on Ebay to see what is selling and I cam across this bow making kit. It looks like she is just stacking the different pieces of ribbon on this metal brad and then folding it down. Will that work? Is it as easy as it looks?

How to make boutique hair bows, bow maker kit,Watermelon - eBay (item 250259811377 end time Jun-22-08 14:57:32 PDT)

Also, I usually stick to simple bows cause I'm a simple person but I Like some of the ones with layers, spikes, etc. IS there a tutorial anywhere about how to "build" a layered bow? If not, do you have a formula or pattern that you use? Example, back spikes, surround, bow, etc.?

Thanks!

Do you mean that the metal could rust or is it dangerous? The french and aligator clips are metal so I am confused.

I never thought about that (brads). Her bows are pretty though. I think she makes them like that so that little kids can make them.

I have had this idea too but the drawback for me was fraying around the hole where you poked the ribbon through, along with a child pulling it apart and the chance it may rust.

I don't think fraying would be such a problem if you'd cut the hole using a woodburning tool - but I agree with the "rusting" - those brads are just not all that - and from the one close up pic in the listing you can tell it's just a "regular" one.
The idea is FANTASTIC! I agree! - if there was just a way to have a super-brad to assemble the layers LOL

its a interesting concept... it even says in her reviews that its designed to be taken apart and done over and over... so the kids can "play" with it.

the slits for the brad can be cut easily with a wood burner.

from a parental point of view... kinda neat but then I see RIBBON everywhere after a week or so and never finding all the pieces.

Bow are too expensive for me to let me daughter "play" with them, ya know? I agree, I see pieces missing and a lot of mess but I can see the appeal for sure.

If you got the painted brads I bet they would be fine!

Can you use a brad to embellish a bow? If so, do you just thread the ribbon through or what? What kind of embellishments do you use?
