Default How to know which ribbons to purchase?!

I'm a NEWBIE! Just trying to make a few cute bows for my DD. I only have 1 daughter and am NOT planning on selling the bows or anything -- so don't want to buy so many ribbons, that I'll have a ton left.

1) Which ribbon (style) would you recommend is the easiest for me to start with? Pinwheel or bowtique, flower loop ?

2) What sizes / styles of ribbons should I get? Solids or decor? 7/8", 1 inch or larger? Should I get one of each and just see what I'll need.

Thanks for your input!

If you are only making them for you DD, then I would suggest finding someone who sells in one yard cuts. There are plenty on Etsy, and I'm sure some Hip Girls probably do to. For my girls I made Pinwheels in all primary and Pastel Colors when I first started and evolved from there. Depending on how old your daughter is (or how big you want your bows) I would probably start with 7/8" ribbon. I prefer putting all my bows on alligator clips. I would suggest partially lining them, and for that you use 3/8" ribbon. To line a clip you only need about 4.5" of ribbon.

Did that help at all?

Yes, this was helpful. I ended up going to Michael's today, and they were having a crazy 50% off sale, so I bought a bunch of different sizes - 5/8, 7/8 and 1.5". I'll have to play around and see what works.

My DD is 4 yrs old, so don't want the bows too large and loud, but might try to use the 1.5" as the base bow or use them for spikes.

I did see a bunch of videos on using 3/8" to line the clips - I do plan on doing that.

thanks!

I sell ribbon. Offray is what I have. I can do 1 yard cuts or however big you want them. I have almost every color in 3/8 - 7/8 - 1 1/2.

I would also recommend avoiding satin ribbon at first. It is harder to work with than grosgrain. I bought a ton of satin when I first started and still don't use it that much.
