Default Bottle caps with images and polymer clay

I got added to a group on FB where I saw these. They are stinking cute! I know how to make bottle caps and Im learning polymer clay. But what Im wondering is how are they baking the polymer clay with the caps with images? Is the circle of poly clay baked and then glued to the cap? There must be a free tut or someone who knows how to make them!

Heres a link to what Im talking about.

I am guessing you could put the image in, then bake the clay on top and finish with a center of resin. It doesn't sound like that is what she does though, since she says it is not waterproof and I would think the resin would make it waterproof.

She might use a different resin though, like diamond glaze. Hard to tell from the picture. It is cute though. More juvenile than a regular cap.

what a cute idea. i would make the poly clay pieces and than use the trusty ol' E-6000 glue as I imagine that cooking the bottle cap after being painted would cause the paint to boil up.

Upon closer inspection, I don't think that is a metal bottlecap. I think it is a bottlecap made out of clay. Look closely at the edges and you will see what I mean.

She has another store too on etsy and her stuff is darn cute!

Those are really cute. You can bake paper with polymer clay. I use paper, index cards, paper towels, etc to prop things up when I am baking clay that needs a little support. You could also go over the paper area with something after you baked it to make it more permanent. You'd just have to be careful to use something that wouldn't cause the ink on the paper to smear or run, so I'd test it out before you make an elaborate creation. Maybe something like diamond glaze. Sculpey also makes a glaze that you can bake, but I'd test that out on your paper first too. Those are really cute though and could open up a world of possibilities. Especially if you coated them with something. Idk if resin would work or not.

Thanks ladies, that pic isnt the actual one I seen but close. The one I saw was in a closed group on FB. Where the bottle cap was real metal cap.Im guessing either a) glue the image in and put the clay on and bake then seal with etlite or b) make all the poly clay shapes and bake then make the cap and then glue the poly clay to the cap. But Ive JUST GOT TO KNOW how she does it I asked on the group (its small) but I guess no one wants to share

I had some bottle caps that the resin didnt harden so I was trying to take the image out and had a few that the images wouldnt budge. The resin lifted off but the image itself would not lift. I decided to try them out with the clay.I havent put resin on these. I just brushed on the poly clay glaze over the poly clay and image. So its not completely finished yet. I was hoping there wouldnt be a fire in my oven or smoke, but nothing happened so baking bottle caps with modge podge on the images is ok and the color on the caps is fine. Ill try to upload a pic. My pic isnt great, Ive never been able to take good pics.

It's cute and it looks like it came out okay. I love experiments that work out like that!

That looks pretty darn good! I would have been paranoid about the oven smoking too!
