Default Singed flower petal question

Hi folks

I have a customer who is requesting a singed flower headband -- I know how to do that no prob. BUT - she wants the petals to curl upward, so it looks like a tight bloom...I have burnt my fingers 100 times tonight trying to figure that techinque out. Similar to this:

Any tips?

Probably not much help, but maybe you can use long-nosed tweezers to hold the petal, and then hold it over the flame it curves a little. Once you figure out which way it will curve, you might be able to make them all curve the way you want to. At least you wouldn't be burning your fingers anymore.

Is it possible to bend the petal with heat using a hair straightener before you singe it? So sorry you're burning your fingers!!

Those aren't the typical round petals, they are either separate pieces, or just "petal shaped" instead of round. You might need to singe (or direct the hear) further from the edge to get it to curl more. And I usually use tweezers or something. You just have to play with the angle and position of the fabric until you can get it right... but I recommend tweezers or something similar so you don't burn yourself : )

Mine tend to curl up naturally. I use satin that I get at HL. I singe over a candle and let the heat do the work, not the flame. You have to cut the satin into flower shape to begin with, then each petal will curl up.

To get one that looks like that flower, you just need to keep adding layers, so it is nice and full.

I would cut it into a flower shape. Search for 5 petal flower template and you should be able to find one. When you go to singe the flower pinch each petal at the base making sure you are pinching onthe underside and it should help it curve up.

I've found I can control how they lay when I glue them to the felt... also how long you leave them by the flame determines how much "curl" you get

Thanks for the link on the tut. That is helpful. I love that Etsy shop. I've loved her flowers for a long time and wonder how she makes them. They are perfect!!
