Default Crochet headband tutu dress - help??

I have a customer wanting a santa tutu dress for her little girl. The only red crochet headband I have is a 10" so I want to just cut it and then resew it to make it smaller.
I'm a little worried it will just unravel or something when I cut it though. Has anyone done this before? Am I good to go?

Maybe just try folding it in half? It is a little harder to thread the tulle through, but it works

Folding the top in half works. I do that quite a bit as it gives more coverage to the top of the dress. I have also cut and resewn tops to adjust sizing. The top won't unravel. Just be sure to catch loose ends with your needle and thread.

^That's exactly what I did, cut it in half. Thanks ladies.

What if you sew the band first and then cut after? Do you think that might work?
