Default tea dying elastic ?

I have some really pretty flowers that look antique and was thinking of making them on elastic headbands. I only have white elastic like you find at joann's. Has anyone dye elastic with tea to make it antique looking? Any tips? tia

I've found this one to be the best for my purposes; and the g/d's love the wide elastic as waistbands on skirts!

I wouldn't likely go for tea dying as I would guess that it could become discolored when wet. Maybe I am not familiar enough with it, but it does not sound like a permanent solution.

in many cases . . . it is permanent. lol - have you ever tried to get a coffee/tea stain out of clothes? in the olden days - they used these, as well as herbs & flowers. . . tumeric gives a wonderful golden yellow! and these have survived for hundreds of years.

but again, it's all in the technique & imo it's heat setting the color that's most important. one just can't dump it over the object & expect it to be permanent.

haha - lime jello is one of my favorite dyes!

edit . . . forgot one thing - vinegar and salt (one or the other) also intensifies the color and aids in setting the color . . . another "colonial days" trick!
