Default When making stacked boutique bows is the bottom bow (pinwheel bow)really necessary?

I am starting to make stacked boutique bows with surrounds and spikes and it isn't going the best. Practice makes perfect! But, is the bottom bow(usually a pinwheel bow) really necessary? Why cant the back just be the spikes? What is the purpose of the back bow? Does this make sense?

I sometimes use just spickes, but usually I use an upside dow boutique bow instead of a pinwheel.

I haven't made a ton of these, but mine look so much better without a base. I do the spikes and surrounds but not base. I see everyone else's and they look great, I just haven't mastered them yet. So, no, the base bow isn't necessary!

I think it depends on your own style...

To me a stacked boutique bow consist of a twisted boutique plus (1) @ the bottom it can be another twisted boutique bow (upside down) or it can be a pinwheel bow.
I make my stacked boutique bow with a twisted bow and put a pinwheel @ the bottom, sometimes I add spikes sometimes I don't. I don't really like the look with a twisted bow @ bottom ... but that just my opinion.

Hope it helps...

I think yes it is necessary! When I have made them without a bottom bow the spikes don't sit right or get caught in the hair.

Someone on HG once explained it as, It's like a foundation to a house, you don't see it but without the building is not sound.

There are a couple options for the bottom bow, I use a basic boutique style bow (similiar to a pinwheel with no tails). Or you can use an upside twisted boutique bow which is great if you want to add drama and height.

I don't use them, and I've never had a problem with them or anyone complain. I think it's a matter of personal preference.

When I first started making bows, I always did the bottom bow, spikes, loops, top bow, and topper.

Now, according to what style/mood/size I'm in or going for, determines what goes into the "stack". Sometimes I do the base bow, sometimes not. I make all my boutique bows freehand, and rarely ever make anything else unless it's a tails down cheer or two loop topper.

I think everyone should learn by the book, but go out and make your own style and try new things. That's what sets you apart, and thats a good thing!

In bow making, there are definitely right and wrong ways of doing things. That being said, if you construct a well-sewn bow that has even loops, and is of high quality, I think your customers will respond well to that.

What I'm trying to say is, do your own thing and be proud of your bows :-)

this is just personal prefernce! sometimes for little girls the bow sits to high i do most of mine with a bottom twisted boutique bow but for my little one i do have a few that are just the top and spikes. it does make a difference in the look. what i do is i make my tbb and hairspray it. i wait till its super hard then i put the stacked boutique bow together it gives it the solid foundation it needs to be a stacked.
