Default can someone help me make this basic bow.

Hi all,

I'm wanting to make this particular bow for my little girls first birthday this Sunday. Any help towards making this bow or at least the name of it will be very much appreciated.

P.s.

I know on the hip girl website there is a tutorial for a similar bow, but if you look at the tails (i think that's what they are called) on my pic they are both behind the bow & on the tutorial on the site 1 is in front and 1 in back. Hope that made sense.

Hi prleaf!

Sorry, but I have had a very stressful and hectic summer so HG has gone by the wayside these last few months. I still have to post how to do the bow tie with tails with just one piece of ribbon. I think I can get to it today and maybe this one as well.

Yes, it is nearly the same bow as in the HG tutorial, only the "front" of the bow there is the back of this bow. There is a slight adjustment that also needs to be made where the ribbons need to be lined up evenly in the front and back, but it's probably easier to see it than read it.

If you turn that one around , doesn't one tail come from under the bow, and the other from the middle of the loop, so it would kind of look like both are under? What I mean, is, use the backside of the bow in the tut as the front? Maybe I'm looking at it wrong...

I don't know the size of the bows in the photo, but I am using 6 1/2" of 5/8" wide ribbon for this.

1 - Mark 1 1/4" from each end for the tails and right in the center which will make the loop part of the bow a little under 2 inches across.

2 - Poke a pin through the center mark.

3 - Turn the left side of the ribbon under and put the pin through that mark.

4 - Turn the other tail under and poke the pin through the mark.

5 - Push the 3 parts of the ribbon together and straighten out the tails. Hairclip isn't necessary. It's just there to hold the layers together for the photo.

6 - Holding it with my left hand, getting it ready to pin the creases with my right hand.

7 - Pushed the pin up and down through the center to make 2 folds that look like ^^ from the side. The original photo has 3 creases, but 2 works just as well I think and is easier with the 5/8" ribbon.

8 - Scrunch the creases together ont he pin and tie (dental floss in photo) or sew it if you prefer.

9 - Add center ribbon.
