Default Stuck on this flower

I am trying to make this flower and I have two questions about where I am getting stuck.

1) is the thread doubled before sewing together?

2) On the 9th picture down, I am confused on what I am pulling together? Am I sewing some extra stitches to make it into a circle then pulling it tight?

Thank you for any help!

yup - the thread is doubled - and i usually knot the thread 2-3" up from the ends . . . this gives you a "safeguard" from the petals not accidentally falling off.

i don't think you have to take xtra stitches at the end . . . just take the threads and pull and knot it. this way is soo much easier than trying to stitch it closed.
