Ribbon Lengths ???

Is there a rule of thumb for us newbies that tells us what length to cut a piece of ribbon to make bows, (e.g.)

2" Bow - what length when using

1-1/2" wide ribbon
7/8" wide ribbon
5/8" wide ribbon
3/8" wide ribbon

3" Bow - ditto
4" Bow - ditto
5" Bow - ditto

What about how long to cut the ribbon for spikes?

2" Bow - what length when using
1-1/2" wide ribbon
7/8" wide ribbon
5/8" wide ribbon
3/8" wide ribbon

3" Bow - ditto
4" Bow - ditto
5" Bow - ditto

What about loops?

2" Bow - what length when using

This is my frustration every time. Not knowing how long to cut the ribbon

I've wasted more ribbon (well not actually wasted - I save everything that I don't use - within reason of course).

I did to a search, but didn't find much info, there was a mention about a Ribbon Recipe forum, but can't find that either.

Thank You Cynthia, I've copied down that info, which helps tremendously.

I also FINALLY found some of the other info in the forum. (I knew it was here). I has mispelled lengths in my post - so my search wasn't showing up. I misplaced the info on my hardrive, in my quest to gain info so I could make bows for my grandaughter and my fur babies, that's why I was asking again. Trying to get organized here with all my info.

Here's what I found for boutique bows - to consolidate the info in one place for the newbies:

1.5" Ribbon

4" Boutique = 28" of ribbon
4" Pinwheel = 23" of ribbon
3" Pinwheel= 18" of ribbon

7/8" ribbon

3.5" Boutique = 22.5" of ribbon
3 to 3.5" pinwheel = 19.5" of ribbon
2 to 2.5" pinwheel = 14" of ribbon

5/8" Ribbon

2" half pinwheel (only do one loop on each side) = 7" of ribbon
2.5" Pinwheel = 14" of ribbon

Okay, but what I have been wanting to know FOREVER is the "recipe" for how to make a boutique layered bow using 3/8th ribbon..........................??? ANYONE????
I love those surround a bows/layered bows, etc. And really love the small ones that only use 3/8th. Just have no idea where to start.
Any help would be sooo appreciated!!

I use different sized ribbon depending on the size of the bow I want I find it works better for me.
4 in bow- 1.5 ribbon, 23 in length
3 in bow - 7/8 ribbon, 19 in length
2 in bow - 5/8 ribbon (preferred) 15 length, but I also used 3/8 and 7/8. 3/8 is more for the tiny tiny bitty bows though. Those are my measurments for the way i make pinwheels, or basic or boutique bows.
