Default tutu help

I am making the kind of tutu that has a small piece of tulle tied to it towards the end. My question is: how do you secure the tied tulle? Despite tying the small piece of tulle on tightly, I am still nervous that it will slip off somehow. I tried tying it, take a stitch, and knotting it again, but my thread isn't holding up like I want it to.
Any ideas?

Lets say you have a solid purple tutu and you are tying pink pieces on the bottom to make it puff more like a petti tutu tie one end of the pink and one end of the purple once then knot again with both purples, this secures the ends. I don't know if I explained it right or not. Is this what you meant?

Link doesn't work for me
I like your tutu. I think I've read a tutorial on making those before. Do you knot the long strip for the tutu around the smaller one and then knot the smaller strip on top of that knot?

^Nevermind should have read all the way down.
