Default That little center bow that isn't really a surround bow

Okay, I don't know what to call it. Mrs. Bowling-Something originally asked about it, and here is the link she used. http://www.etsy.com/listing/75862681...le-boutique-on

It's been a while since it was first posted and I meant to get to this much sooner, but I was either busy or forgot. Oops! I originally used brown gingham, but decided that it would be a better tutorial if the was a print on one side because the gingham looks the same on the back as the front and it wouldn't be as easy to understand. And honestly after all this time I had forgotten that the original was a red Swiss dot and that's what I grabbed!

Photo 1 - you start with a figure 8. 3/8" ribbon about 12 1/2" long. I marked this one 3 inches apart with 1/4" ends for overlap. Play with it and figure out what size YOU like. Just because one person makes theirs 3 inches doesn't mean that's the only way to do it.

Photo 2 - I hope you have at least attempted the figure 8 bow once so you know what this next picture is. You pull the top of the figure 8 down and behind the X and match that mark to the center of the X.

Photo 3 - If you bring up the bottom loop as well, this is the twisted bow. This ISN'T the bow we're trying to make, but I thought I'd throw in this photo for people trying to do the twisted bow.

Photo 4 - Here is photo 2 again. However, instead of placing the horizontal part of the ribbon the way you would for a twisted bow, you need to flip it upside down. So the lower edge of that horizontal part needs to be upper edge. You move the lower edge up towards the upper loops so the dots end up against the table. If you flip it down the other way, you will get a different look to the loops.

Photo 5 - This is how you want it to look. If you compare it to #2, you will see the loops are different and having one printed side should help you see the difference.

Sorry about the crooked pictures, but hey, it's free. LOL

Photo 5 - With the lower bow done the same way. Always flip the bottom edge towards the loops.

Photo 6 - The bow turned over.

There is a little faster way to do it, but with just me and a regular camera and not being right there in your house to show you what to do, this is probably the less confusing method.

You're welcome.

Here's the easier way, but I don't know if it's more confusing. I figure most of you have at least attempted the figure 8 twisted bow so my original instructions would be easier to understand. But maybe this isn't as confusing to try and explain as I think it is.

Two more photos for how to go from the first photo to the basically the fifth photo in one step (if the fifth photo showed the bow on the other side).

1 - The basic figure 8. Arrow points to the edge that is touching the cutting mat. You just flip that edge up (towards you) and down to go across the center X.

2 - The arrow is pointing to the same spot as in the first photo so I hope that makes this less confusing. Then you just do the same with the bottom loop.

(And for that flower bow from another thread, you just make a bunch of circles with a dart in the bottom and glue one on top of each other. If you cut well enough, you can cut circles from satin or grosgrain ribbon and when you sear the edges you just sear together the edges of the bottom dart/pleat so you don't have to glue the dart together.)
