Fluffing would probably help. You can use a blow dryer, a clothes dryer and mesh garment bag or an embossing gun (just be careful as these can melt your fabric.) Best of luck!

I'm sure fancy is right. I haven't gotten any yet, but the ones I see for sale in some places are really scary-looking, with circular gaps that you can see clear through!

I would even try lightly misting them with (distilled?) water before using a blow dryer on low and holding the flowers upside-down while drying them.

Good luck!

Ok. I tried the blow dryer trick (spritzed it with water first) and it worked awesome!

I was going to use the dryer but I'm so behind on laundry that I didn't want to take the time to use the dryer for that lol

Here's another question:

When you make a headband like this:

(with two shabby flowers)

How do you do the felt backing? do you put a circle on each flower, or just in between the two??

The best way (IMO) is to glue the flowers to the headband and then glue an oblong piece of felt/ fleece on the back. HTH!
