manshan--you don't stitch down the center, you make "v's" horizontally along the length of the ribbon.

I sat and figured it out, and you were right it was simple when it was done. I sewed an inch across the top of the ribbon, then the next inch across the bottom, then across the top, and so on.

This is ruching--you sew stitches at 90 degree angles and pull it up to gather and make the ric-rac design. See the link below--it shows how to do it and you can down load a pdf.

This one shows how to make a gathered leaf and ruched flower. Also a pdf.

Hope this helps!

Yes, Pat - it is ribbon ric-rac - sold like that. You could probably do something similar on your own, but it may look more like a ruffle than ric rack - which wouldn't be bad either! Did you get your machine??????

so it is like that down the ribbon. Gently slide the ribbon along the thread to gather. It is easy, I promise!

It almost looks like they actually made curves while sewing that stitch...and then gathered it into a ruffel before they sewed it on...unless I am over thinking it...but I just dont think that is a center stitch...it is too cute!! Wishing I had time to play with the sewing machine this weekend...if I can get my mom to look at it I will let you know what she thinks. That woman can sew anything and has never used a pattern. I can sew, but for me it is work and I need a pattern.

YES!!!! Got it on monday and I sent you an email the day after you responded to my PM ......it says from [email protected].
Anyway got it on monday done quite few appliques already and gone thru several dramatic moments making them LOL first my needle broke in the middle od an applique since here there are no small thread spools I had to buy the big ones so they wont fit and thread got stuck till I figured I had to put it in the floor..it was a nightmare trying to get back to the same spot on design after turning off machine...and second one I unplugged the machine accidentaly during an applique and same thing!!!!!!!!! Thanks god someone at an embroidery group on Fb helped me LOL.
Finally got the PE780D and I am as happy as I can be with this machine.Only thing that stinks is that I can`t find nice blanks here so in the mean time had to buy some not as nice and pay twice the price LOL but will order this week just trying to decide if going with monag or kavio.
I will post pick tomorrow anyway was going to pm you about this.Original stitches on facebook where they have a great pic posting of a proyect done with their freebie of this month go check it here

I came across this looking for something else, it demonstrates the technique that HokieMum is talking about. Just in case anyone else needs a visual.
