Question Attaching clips to curly ostrich puffs?

What is a good way? I used hot glue and my 18 month pulled it right off.... Should I glue a felt circle on the puff first and then the clip?

What I do is use two felt circles.
1. I glue the puff to one circle
2. Glue the puff/circle piece to the clip
3. Use the second felt circle to attach to the other felt piece when the clip is open
Mine have never come apart
