Default help using custom ribbon

Does anyone have any suggestions for working with custom made ribbon? It is so stiff I have a really hard time getting my bows to come out as nice as regular grosgrain. I've tried a couple different people for custom ribbon, and although the ribbon looks great it's all super stiff. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Do you mean stiff from the image? If so,I line it with a solid grosgrain. I think it helps when folding the ribbon.

Yeah, from the transfer paper. I usually do a contrasting color solid grosgrain with it, but that really only adds to the stiffness and bulk. I just tried a new girl and although the transfer is beautiful, the ribbon is just almost too stiff to shape it right. I'll try to add some pics and see if that helps. My bows usually are much nicer shaped than this This is the new ribbon I got and tried out today. It's like it wont lay flat and open up.

Do you starch your bows? . I haven't used custom ribbon before, but when regular grosgrain gets wet the ribbon gets more pliable and easier for me to shape. Maybe that would work with the specialty kind.

I made some custom ribbon with transfers before and it was just so stiff I had a hard time shaping the bow and it just didn't turn out like i wanted. it was pretty much flat. Starching really didnt help. I threw out a whole spool of ribbon that i had made . I ended up finding a tutorial on here to print directly on the ribbon and it had no effect on the stiffness. it worked great.

I starch my bows, but after they're made. I don't know if getting this stuff wet would be ok or not. Somehow I don't think it would help much. The transfer paper is what makes it stiffer and it feels kind of plastic-y. Ugh... darnit! lol

I have the same problem with even some of the printed stuff from china.

Have you tried different ribbon to print on? Maybe if they used something flimsy like UB?

I second printing directly onto the ribbon instead of using transfer paper. It doesn't have any effect on the ribbon and the colors are much more vibrant.

I make a lot of bows from ribbon I make with transfer paper and it does seem a little stiff but not so much that I cant work with it. I use offray ribbon and have a contrasting color. Maybe it is the type of transfer paper. I made this one with transfer.

I didn't make the ribbon myself and I have no clue how to print on ribbon myself!!! I have bought it from a couple places and it was stiff from both. Mommaof two, that's what mine usually look like, but not with the custom ribbon I can't get it to shape nice like that
