What size dowels are you using? This could be an issue too.

I wet mine (plain water) after they have been rolled and bake at 275 for about 25 minutes and allow to completely cool before unrolling. I don't use anything on mine.

Different temps for different ovens too....Maybe go up to 300?

I feel like it could be your ribbon. I now spray mine with starch, but when I first started making korkers I never used starch and they cam out just fine. Not as stiff but very springy and they held their shape. So if your oven is working and your putting your ribbon tightly on your dowels, I just think it may be the ribbon you're using?!

I do the same temp and time you are but...... I buy Schiff ribbon! I find it is the BEST for korkers. If I happen to use a cheaper/softer ribbon I make the korker and then spray it with starch and let sit until dry. This will make them very stiff!

I have been making korkers for about 25 years, I spray mine with hairspray, bake at 215 until their dry, maybe 15-20 minutes, let cool and have never had any problems what so ever. I've actually forgot and left them in the oven overnight and at this temp, you don't have to worry about them scorching.
Hope my technique helps someone,

Thanks for the help. I am using 1/4 or 3/8 inch dowels. I am trying to increase them to 300. They are just harder to work with when they aren't a little bit more firm. Once I spray the bow after they are fine.

I will keep trying.

Are you watering down the Faultless Heavy Starch? I use Sta-flo Starch concentrated and spray it on mine heavy then bake at 275 for 25 minutes and they come out stiff.
