Thanks for all of the input, everyone! I was thinking the same thing--that she hand singed each tiny little strand--and I was hoping there might be an easier way, but it doesn't look like there is. Talk about labor intensive!!

Jeni, your flowers are all so lovely! I do love your version, and I have done something sort of similar before with felt. I hadn't thought to try it with other fabrics. I'll have to give it a go!

As far as the original flower, I just can't decide if she cut a strip of fabric, cut slits into it, then wound it up; or if she cut circles, cut strips into the circles, folded them, and then sewed or glued them together...

Okay, this might help..

I was browsing chiffon flowers on Alixexpress and I just happened across this type of flower.

Look at the last picture .. it might help you when you are making it.

I think it is this kind of flower only it is singed.

Take a strip of fabric, I folded in over and over to make it shorter and than cut like a zig zag edge on one side and open it up. You could now singe the zig zag edge. Now just do a gather stitch along the straight edge and gather it up and tie the two ends together and you should have your flower.

I agree, I think this looks to be very close, but I'm not sure I understand your instructions on how it's put together.

I LOVE that flower they have! Thank you for the link! I was all set to order some, until I noticed the big "No Longer Available" notice on the flower. Bummer! Maybe we could get someone to do a buy. They would be great flowers for the spring!

That last picture is really helpful to see how they folded it. That's kind of what I originally thought the seller on Etsy might have been doing, but when I tried it, mine looked funky.

Oooh, yes, this does look an awful lot like the flower! I think you're right! So...I'm a little confused about how and where to cut. Could you explain this a little bit more? Sorry...

I have these same flowers and several other things in my shopping cart from this supplier. They have already left for their holiday and won't be back until the 8th of February, but would be glad to share some of these with you girls once they come back to work.

Take a strip of fabric say 5cm wide and 20cm long. Now fold it in half and in half again. So now it is 5cm by 5cm. You are only doing this so you are cuttin less. You can cut all along the 20cm strip just will take longer.

You cut the long edge of the fabric so it looks like it has little U's or V's cut out if you look at the pic you can see. It does not need to be even or neat expecially if you are singing. Unfold the fabric so you have 1 long length with the cuts. If singing do it now. Then gather stitch along the bottom and pull tight and sew the two ends together. Give it a go.

That flower is beautiful. Will need to add that to my list of things to try. Thanks for sharing.

Jeannie, I'm definitely interested in splitting some of these with you! Should I PM you closer to the 8th?
