Default Tutu Trouble

Hi ladies! I have made several tutus, but never actually had anyone wear one until the other day. I tried something new (well, new to me anyway) with one and gave it to my daughter to play dress up with when I was finished. She wore it for nearly an entire day and it looked absolutely awful when she took it off!! I combed through the tulle with my fingers and played with it a while trying to make it look good again to no avail. My question: is this normal? Are tutus supposed to be for one-time-wear or photo props only? Could the quality of tulle have anything to do with it? (It was HL tulle) TIA

My HL tulle does the same thing. I haven't tried "better" tulle yet and will be curious to hear the answers. I even took a fabric softener sheet and rubbed in on the strands to see if that would help uncrumple them. It didn't.

My HL tulle did the same thing. Had this limp look to it. Now the tulle from HL is mostly polyester. The nylon tulle doesn't seem to do that. The length could also cause issues with how it looks. HTH.

I wonder if cutting it on an angle would make any difference. I've had the same experience but with tulle for JoAnn's

I only use US tulle, which is 100% nylon, and you can remove wrinkles by hanging the tutu in a steamy bathroom or using a steamer. I don't know if that works with polyester tulle or not but it's worth a try. I've had tutus get a little wrinkled but that's about it. One thing to keep in mind about the polyester tulle, it's not flame retardant.

Hope it helps!

Thanks so much....I didn't even think about it not being flame retardant! I will definitely switch to nylon tulle. StarryTaurie, I will try cutting at an angle, as I do have quite a bit of the HL stuff. If nothing else I can use what I have to make dress up tutus for the daughter, nieces, and neighborhood girls

I don't have a HL so I don't know what the tulle from there is but I have people who have had some of my tutus for 2-3 years and their kids still wear them without problem so I don't think it's normal for them to be one time wear
