Default What method do you use to make your bows?

By method I do mean how are you making your bows. I don't want to know instructions on how to make them.

Do you use a template system? Do you do totally freehand?

ALL of my bows are made completely freehand, no templates, nothing. I am proud of myself for being able to perfect many bows freehand without the aid of anything. I am not by any means down talking the moms who do use them, I just didn't care much for the template system, too big of a pain in the butt to me and I love how my bows do look different than those of the template bows. You can easily tell the difference between my template bow, and my freehand bows

I have met a lot of bow makers, and notice that the vast majority use the template system, I just wanted to know if there were any freehand bow makers out there. Also ladies doesn't matter what method you use to make your bows, post some pics of your work, I love looking at bows!!

I made my own templates. I have never bought instructions. The only reason I use templates is for uniformity from bow to bow. I want my repeat customers to get the same size when they are coming back for more of what they like.

I free hand as well. I would've loved templates when I first started making bows but I wouldn't need them now. My hands know what to do and how to manipulate the ribbon to make what I need to make Took me quite a while though to get the basic boutique bow down.

I free hand mine but recently bought the twisted template to see if it would help.

I use the Figure 8 method. I'm still perfecting it, though. I bought the ribbon maker from TRR, but found I liked the twisted much better when I made it by hand. I do like the ribbon maker for uniformity on my classic/basic bows.

I posted a poll similar to this in "How to" that you might want to look at also....I was curious about this too.
