If I was to buy some of the little girl dresses to use as shirts for my 5 year old that wears a size 6 regular shirt what size should I use or could I use them that way?

What I meant was I have a 5 year old and I love that new watermelon line out and it's just for the little girls so I was wondering what size would fit a 5 year old a 2 or 3 maybe?

The watermelon stuff (Summer Picnic) is just newborn, right? It goes up to 18-24. My DD wears a 4 and she can sometimes wear 12-18 as a top and sometimes it's 18-24. It just depends on the piece. I'm going to the store tomorrow to try to score a 50% off. If I get it (or even 30!,) I'm thinking I might get either the gingham or the knit dress to try.

I usually use a size 3 or 4 dress as a shirt for my dd. She normally wears a 5 or 6 shirt. It depends on the dress though and how it is cut. If it is generous throughout the top and midsection then go with the smaller size if it is cut slim you can try the bigger size but it still may not work. Hope this helps. Oh, I almost forgot. My dd is 4 and will turn 5 in July.

I bought the watermelon line for my 12 month old and my 3 year old...the 3 year old is about the size of an avarage 4 year old...as far as height and weight...and I went with the 12-18 month dresses for tops for her--hope that helps!

OMg i thought i was the only one that used dresses as shirts for my kids LOL, glad to see i am not the only one

Thanks ladies for all your advice I am going to Gymboree this weekend and I will post pics of my DD wearing one if I can find one that works lol
