RIght now all the paper stuff and receipts are in a folder in my dresser - need to get a filing thing soon to seperate and be more organized. I will definately check into the safety deposit or a fireproof safe - thanks for the suggestion!

How did you go about setting up your LLC? I'd really like to set mine up too.

I went to Legal Zoom and filled out the information - they manage the progress for me and I get email updates or updates on their website. When I officially receive the paperwork which should be here soon, I will go to the irs site and apply for an EIN then go to my town and register as a business and also list in my chamber of commerce and set up a business checking account. I'm thinking about registering in another town as well close to me as it would attract certain clientele and I just need to pay their annual dues for this.

I'm not registering in the cities I want to sell in - I'm planning to join the chamber of commerce in a few towns - network, get listed in their welcome wagon stuff, etc. I think I still need to get a mercantile license for my town - so they know a business is operating - but bc it is home based w/ no employees it may not be necessary but I still have to find out for sure

I just got my in-home business license yesterday! Just go to your town hall or town's website and you can fill it out. It was REALLY basic. I'm a 'Sole P.' ... but I've never heard of having to register in different cities.. can somone explain that to me a bit more?
