When participating in a craft show/exhibit is it ok to also sell other hair accessory items that are not made by you?

I think if you have a good enough mixture of things, you will be fine. I have about 70% of handmade stuff and I supplement 30% with HH stuff too. Noone has ever said a thing, the sticky part is when someone gushes over something I haven't made, then I feel a bit guilty. But I've never had an issue.
Hope it helps |

I guess I have always thought of craft shows as being crafts that you yourself have made (or were at least handmade by someone...family member, friend, etc.).
I make everything on my table with the exception of crochet headbands and kufi hats. I don't think that is too bad, I do make the bows and flowers that go with them ![]() I don't think I would judge if most of your items were handmade, however buying all your items from HH and have a little resale booth would tick me off a little if I was the other bow vendor and loosing business to you ![]() Krista |

I personally take pride in my work, and I only sell what I make. I think it is pathetic when a crafter sells China made crap such as HH. Yes, everyone needs fillers, but I would rather have to have a month of sleepless nights, than to have china made products in my booth. Customers will ooo and ahh, when you say in PRIDE..."everything you see if hand made BY ME" I make sure I tell all of my customers that when they enter my booth. Good luck. Remember, try to be creative. That is the true meaning of a crafter, being creative with YOUR hands!!!

I only sell crochet headbands & Kufis that were bought at my shows and if they have a hand made only policy I only sell them with a flower or bow. The show I am going to this weekend said is okay if I you sell it with a product you make. I also have wings, crowns and boas from HH that are only sold with tutus that I make to make a costume or dress up set . She said if you sell it to supplement something you made or embellish it that is fine.
I however hate when I enter a show and have tosend pictures and get a threatening letter about commercial items and get there and there are booths with only HH stuff and fake coach purses. The fake coach pyears bother me the most. Especially when they try to tell me it is real! Oh I also sell bow and arrows my grandpa makes from PVC pipe, nylon headbands from raggedy Amy and I am going to add super hero capes that a lady on etsy made for me. They are however handmade by someone |

I think it all depends on the show if it is juried or not and the terms of the jury. Some will allow a certain % not made by you and others will not. Just like some shows will allow you to add to a product like a kufi hat and others will not as you didn't personally make the hat. I just ask with each show the terms.

I find it so sad for the jewelry makers these days. There are so many home party people at the shows these days. When my mom comes to shows to visit me I ask her to please only shop with those that are handmade. The lady who was next to me at the last show I thought her stuff was handmade because my friend gets her pearls from China. But she goes there and picks them out herself and her jewelry is amazing. But no this lady has a partner in China and nothing is made by them. Drives me crazy. Plus every time we went to a jewelry booth they kept stressing everything was made by them. Such a pity. When my mom did shows you went to shows because you knew everything was going to be handmade. Now you have to ask if it is.

The way I feel about it,
mostly handmade stuff with a few fillers or accessories (kufi hats for example) that aren't is fine with me. A booth full of import stuff that still has Made in China stickers on the back is not. A "craft" show with 10% vendors selling handmade items and 90% vendors selling Pampered Chef, Avon, Stampin Up, Princess House, etc, I have a BIG problem with. I have seen more and more shows going this way. I even went to one a month or so ago with THREE Pampered Chef vendors. Stampin Up I can forgive because you do actually use their items to make crafts. The others, no. |
