Default Help! Customer asking for a...

discount on an order of

4 large (4" twisted 1.5") plain bow
and
3 medium (3" twisted 7/8")

7 bows....

I typically only sell my bitty bows at a 2fer price. The mediums & larges are sold per bow.

Now sure what I should do here. She's bought from me a handful of times - LOVES bows. Was supposed to have a bow party for me next week, but just cancelled as her school district teachers are on strike, so friends of hers would now have a tighter budget.

Can someone give me some good sound business advice?

Thank you!

What if you did a 10% discount or offered her $5 off her next order..something like that. Just my opinion not real good at deciding on things like that. I am sure someone here will have really good advice to give you. Good Luck

Tell her:

I'm sorry, but I don't offer discounts on my bigger bows so that I can offer them at the lowest possible price all the time. I make each bow by hand and they are time consuming. I do offer a 2-for-1 (or whatever) price on the smaller bows, but the large bows are already discounted to give you the best deal possible.

Is she looking for a specific discount? If she is a repeat customer I would think about it, if you can do it while still making a profit. Don't feel like you have to do though.

Thank you ladies - my husband mentioned a 10% discount. She posed the question like so:

"Let me know what the prices would be... Is there a discount for larger orders? 3 for ?"

Typically I wouldn't consider this as a "large order".

Does anyone have a policy like: if you buy 10 bows of the same size/style you get a 10-15% discount? Does that make sense?

I would decide what you want to do, and then post the policy, and then just stick to it.....this way there is no question of how things will work in the future. I think a discount at 10 or more is more than fair.

You could always explain that you just typically run specials on the smaller bows but you'd love to include a free clippie/small bow/etc. with her order.

You could maybe give her a 10% discount.

I think I am going to say that I'll give her a one time 10% discount on the order. She is a potential long term customer so I don't want to set a precedent that she'll get a discount each time...but she has said in the past that she wants one of every color in that large bow...it would be to her benefit to order them all at one time.

Up until now I've mostly down shows and bow parties, don't take a lot of big orders, but that is where I am heading and really will need some sound business advice from some veterans with websites and shops. I am continuing to search the forum and read what I can - so I really appreciate your ladies advice - especially those that have been through alot of this already.

Thanks Ladies,
Jen

I ran into this fairly frequently, especially when I sold on ebay, and sites where people are trying to get a good deal. I always responded that no, I do not offer specific volume discounts, but that they can join my Facebook page, where I post frequent deals for all of my fans. It is funny what people think is a "large" order.

If you are going to offer her a discount, instead of doing a 10% off her current order, I would offer it on her NEXT order over $35, or something like that.
