Default Re: Why You Can NOT Sell Disney Crafts

I know rules are rules and they're there for a reason, but golly gee.....Disney...a multi BILLION dollar company is sueing crafters for selling clippies with Cinderella on them? Crafters that, might I add, are probably just trying to make a little bit of extra money and not trying to get rich off of Disney.

Walt would roll over in his grave.

So I read all of the posts and I'm still confused. Everyone has different takes. Are the princess clippies safe to sell? And are Mouse clippies that appear like mickey mouse safe to sell as long as you don't refer to anything disney? As well as any bows made with disney ribbon are they all in violation too?

My mom's daycare got a cease and desist letter back in the 90's for airing Disney movies because it was a paid for daycare. It's okay to show them if you aren't 'charging' for it. Ugh. I have no clue how Disney would have even caught wind.

There was a big deal about this with one of the merchants on Ebay. It's a good read if anyone has a link.

You can make the princess ribbon sculptures, mouse sculptures as long as you just call them that. You can not advertise them as Mini Mouse or Belle though.

Also if you buy disney ribbon or disney fabric (licensed materials) you can make what you wish with them and sell to your hearts content. I would just add in your item description that the item was made using licensed disney products.

Now THAT is dumb.

My mom had a home daycare for nearly 15 years and they watched disney movies all the time while she made lunch

This is such a confusing subject!

I have read most of the posts on this thread and from what I gathered, you can purchase licensed items (fabric, stickers, etc) and hand-make items to sell, right?

What about the bottle cap images sold on etsy? I am assuming that it is not legal to make and sell bottlecaps using those images? What if you bought licensed stickers and used them on the bottlecaps? Does that then make it legal?

Again, I am still confused on this topic and would like to make sure I am doing everything by the books to avoid trouble.
