Yes, those would need to have certs too. Here they talk about phthalates: You can dl the full guide by clicking the link at the bottom. Another good read. http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/smbu...facturers.html

Am I reading this thread right, in that JoAnn's does not certify their stuff to be lead-free, but a small-at-home craft business is required to.?? I need to sit down with hubby this weekend, read the links that you posted, and figure this shizz out.

JoAnn's won't have to because they are selling pcs to be used however you want. They sell the materials to ANYone. Not marketed for use as such.

We have to provide the certs IF we market the items for use in children's wear, etc. So if it is sold to kids in your shop or looks like that's your target audience/customer then you will need them.

Clips, it said, didn't need to be tested by small batch mans because the part itself was too small, etc. But I have to find it.

So clips don't have to be tested, but buttons do? I wonder what the size range they are using. I have a lot of buttons that are smaller than clips.
So, where is everyone buying fabric.
So, if you buy fabric, buttons, etc from say JoAnns, then you call the manufacturer and ask for the certificate?? Is that the way it works if you shop at craft stores?

I know when this whole lead stuff started, I called Sally beauty supplies corporate office and they were already jumping the and and their clips were already being testes. I know they passed and are certified. I just called the number on the box, it was no big deal, and they will email you.HTH. I don't buy mine there anymore so I don't have it.

Me again, I copied this from that link above. ---If a product is intended for adults or for general use by consumers of all ages, then it is not intended primarily for children. Products marketed and priced in a manner that would not make them appropriate for use by a child would also not be intended primarily for children. An example would be an expensive telescope -- because it is sold for general use by all ages, it is not a children’s product even though it can be used by a child on occasion.--- if I'm reading this right, can't we, ie bow makers, just say that while may contain small parts and children should be watched, this bow is intended for all ages 1-100! Just sayin' this whole mess is still such a thorn in the side.

I buy mostly from RibbonRetreat and RABOM. I have bought some on etsy, and I am SURE the ribbons I have purchased are from similar sites.... Probably ribbon clubs I don't belong to.
I am concerned about fabric though. While I don't sell really any fabric stuff at the moment, I am looking into making fabric bows, embroidery/appliques for the next year. And I shop mostly at JoAnns for fabric.
