Default International shipping?

I've had my first request to ship outside my normal area (US and Canada). I've never messed w shipping much internationally, how do I quote her postage? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I tried to use the USPS site, but it is telling me $20?!? It's to El Salvador if that matters...

What are you shipping? I ship outside of the US all the time and I use the USPS for the quote...it's usually pretty close.

I tried to put in a little box like I would normally send (fits headbands and several bows), but it kept telling me it would have to be at least 10" wide or something? Maybe I'm not looking in the correct spot? Help! Thanks

usps has an area where you select the country and it will tell you how much based on the weight and size of the package. you can either use a flat rate international box which is up to 20 lbs or use your own box....i recommend the flat rate international box because if you use your own box the price doubles...i just looked into this since i have gotten request also outside of the US/CANADA region...but shipping does get kinda steep internationally...for me to ship a package in a flat rate international box its $28.00

I have a lady in UK that asked for quote and got $10.60 . I need to get to ups and see if its cheaper. She also want tracking and usps doesn't offer tracking for the first class.

See, even that seems steep? I see shops on Etsy all the time that have "elsewhere" shipping costs at like $5ish. I guess they are shipping w/o tracking? Does your customs number give you any kind of tracking? It's all confusing.. which is why I don't usually mess w it.

I shipped an order of 4 flower clips in a bubble mailer to belgium for less then $2.50 last week standard shipping. My post office said you can't get confirmation with international, but you can use the customs # for tracking. Haven't shipped international in a box yet, this was my first international order. I gave her a partial refund on shipping. I had it set for $5 first item/ $2.50 each additional (her shipping total was $12.50, I refunded $7). USPS online estimate was around $7.

Thank you! I will check w my local po. I knew that people shipping from China were tracking it somehow, so I figured they were using the customs info.
