Default A Little Overwhelmed With Etsy

OK, so a couple of weeks ago, I posted the thread about 52 Etsy sales in 5 days. Well, I've been feeling a little overwhelmed with sales recently, so I counted them starting today and going back to include 3/11 (exactly 14 days). I've had 139 sales in 2 weeks - an average of 10 a day...

Now, obviously this is great and all, but I'm TIRED. I have a 1-month-old who takes issue with all forms of daylight, and a toddler who's adorable, but starting to test her boundaries more. I, maybe, get 6 hours of sleep at night, but not because of the baby (who actually sleeps like a champ at night), but because I'm trying to catch up on orders that didn't get completed during the day. I'm a huge bookworm, and I can't tell you the last time a read a book. Yesterday, I was feeling hungry at around 4pm and suddenly realized that I hadn't eaten anything all day!

I know that I'm very lucky. It's a very saturated market on Etsy and they're a lot of people looking for tips on increasing sales. I'm just looking for some advice, I guess. I briefly thought of putting my shop on vacation, but I feel like people would forget about me, or something. I briefly thought of hiring someone, but to do what? I have no clue. Plus, I'm OCD, so I could totally see myself being a micro-manager, getting nothing done myself, while I hover over the other person to make sure it's done right. Raise my prices? I did a little, but I also like being priced reasonably. I don't even really list or relist as often, because I'm trying to play catch-up. I don't know. At least my older dd (2.5 years) will be starting part-time preschool in the fall.

Anyone with any tips or just can empathize? Even if you've got nothing, thanks for listening.

ETA: I debated posting this, as I don't want to come off as bragging, because I know some are struggling with sales. I just really needed to let this out.

when I get overwhelmed I deactivate any listings that are not ready to ship and I let any custom order inquiries know that there will be a little wait.

Yeah, I might have to end up doing that. I upped my posted production time to 6-8 business days (made it clear that it didn't include weekends), and that was a good first step.

I ended up hiring someone for about 16 hrs a week (And I could actually use her more) I was lucky and found someone wonderful, quick learning and SUPER crafty (sometimes she puts me to shame LOL) I interviewed about 15 people to find her - BUT well worth it. I still check her orders before they go out, even simple clips (because I am TYPE A), and she doesn't make any of my fancy or custom items, but my clip sets are a huge seller, and lets be honest, it's not that hard to line a clip and slap an applique on it. LOL

She also helps me with my blog, SEO duties, shipping, local shows, etc. I trained her in while I was taking my materninty leave so it worked out good for me.

I am just like you, I don't want to close my store in fear people will forget about it. I also looked at your shop, you really need to increase your prices. I know it's good to get tons of sales, but you don't want to be running yourself through the ground by making lots of sales but little profit kwim?

Oh also whenever I have time I stock up and make few things like my rosettes and when I have enough stocked up I have a sale for my facebook fan. Just something to think about

You sound overwhelmed so I'm sending you a HUG
You are a full time Mommy & full time working basically, just because you work for yourself is no different than if you work for somebody else. Being a full time Mom in itself if a hard job, let alone adding a full time work schedule. I've got 2 year old twins who have been testing boundries for a couple of months now so I feel for you, then add a 1 month old and work, you have a LOT going on.

I will say that if you are feeling that overwhelmed, maybe cut back a little or can you get someone to come help you watch the kids while you catch up on orders(mom, friend, etc) And if you keep not getting enough sleep, that is going to catch up with you.

I'll stop before I type a novel...that is what I tend to do, lol. Anyhow, congrats on doing so well and good luck coming to a decision on what you should do. Don't forget that YOU need a break too.

Maybe hire someone to do the crappy work like packing up orders, printing labels etc. Stuff that really doesn't require you to micro manage.

Sounds like you're getting some good advice. Now I just need to figure out how to get as stressed out about filling orders as you are. haha

for sales - hope you can figure out a way to find the balance you need and really enjoy the sales success soon!
