I was just kinda snooping, and for anyone else having etsy problems too.
Post like crazy when you first start out! I have heard from lots of friends and family that they are leary about buying from people who don't have feedback, once you get a good amount of feedback you should start making more sales.
I have started buying showcase spots, I did two this summer and no sales, but I did gets lots of people adding me to their favorites. Then I did another about a month or so ago and got lots of sales from it, I think now is the time to start working on getting sales with the holidays coming up people are looking to buy!
Also have some little sale or gimmic. I have done a free bow holder with the purchase of 3 or more items, free shipping on large orders, and for the month of september I had a free gift with every purchase. I ALWAYS spike with sales when I have a special offer available. So I am giving away a few clips, but I am making double or more what I would have.
The biggest problem is that so many people post and your items get pushed pages and pages back in a matter of hours(sometiems minutes) I have learned that posting early to mid evening is the best time, not as many people post and your item stays toward the front longer, getting more views.
Make it known(if you are willing) that you accept custom orders. I would say that 60-70% of sales are people want something specialy made in certain colors or styles. I even had a lady ask me if I could make a bow that I had never heard of, she sent me pictures and said she was in no rush, I spent a few weeks perfecting it, but got it down! So be willing to be flexible, it brings your customers back!
Also if at all possible ship within a day or two. I have had people come back to me because they need something quickly and some other sellers don't ship as fast. If I get an order early enough it goes out same day, if not then next day. Custom orders I try to have out within one to two days, depending on how large, they sometimes take longer.
Anyway, this has all been my experience with Etsy, so I hope I was able to help someone!
