Default Can someone please help me with barettes?

I just purchased some French style locking barrettes to decorate for my daughter because she has very thick curly hair and I'm hoping they will work out well.

What I want to do is coordinate the barrettes with her outfits, so whatever I embroider on her outfit, I could embroider somehow the image again then glue it or sew it onto the barrettes but I'm not sure how to begin.

Is it possible to even do this? Would I embroider the image then cut around it? I'm confused. LOL

Would love some direction if you have any experience with this!

Thanks,
Katherine

I would get some of the plastic barrette covers. You could embroider your image, cut out the shape for the barrette covers, glue to blank then glue cover to french clip.

Here is a link to what I am talking about...

Thanks. I think those would work good but they are sort of pricey.

Have you ever cut around an embroidery image? Does it work out? I wish I was home from work already so I could test it out! LOL

You could sew the design onto felt then trim around it once it's finished.
You could also glue another piece of felt to the back side before cutting so the back would be covered.

Ooooh, good idea. I have a bunch of felt that just sits around since I never know what to do with it. (I inherited it when my mother passed away)

Can't wait to try it! Thanks!!!

Felt is really easy to use. If you ever run out of felt, you need to hoop a water soluble stablizer and do a regular applique on it. When finished, just tear the stablizer away.

I make them http://bizzybsbowtique.com/Store/Default.asp Scroll down and you can see the personalized barrettes. you could also do plain just a letter and embroider and outline around it, just use thick stabilizer.

Felt does not fray. So you can simply embroider your text on them and cut to size.

In the event you do not have felt, or you need to use fabric, you need to hoop a water soluble stabilizer, and you go through the usual steps of making an applique. When the applique is completed, remove the hoop and tear the stabilizer away gently. Your applique would look like a patch which you can simply glue onto your barettes.
