I agree that the fees through ebay are ridiculous, and that shoppers on there are typically looking for a bargain. One thing to point out though is that, no matter how cute the item, just opening a website is not going to bring customers. You can put a lot of time and work in to a website, but without the traffic, nobody will see your items. Getting the traffic either costs money, or takes a ton of time to establish. One of the advantages to ebay or etsy is that they already have the traffic.
