Re: About to list some things... now I'm scared!!!
I cleaned out my house last year...twice and made some decent money on eBay. Check out their fee list. I think for selling small items like bows there is too much competition to pay the fees when you already have to make your prices lower to compete. I sold a serger on there for $1000 and fees ended up being steep but I couldn't have gotten that price in the newspaper. We had no luck with Craigs list when we were cleaning out things. I believe eBay takes 12% of your final sale price. But you have to think about it this way...if you take it anywhere else will you get a sale as quickly or for the price minus fees.
When I sell on ebay I decide my lowest price I am willling to take and either go a little below or start bidding at that price. That way I don't end up selling something for 9.99 when I wanted more. Also, even though you are not suppose to, people jack up their shipping to cover fees often.
I would recommend doing a search by item of similar items. In advanced search, you can search completed listings only and that will show you what comprable items have sold for in the last week or two.
It took me a while to learn some of the secrets of eBay. I feel like I made lots of beginning mistakes, but now I am a more confident seller. It was definitely trial and error but I made some nice dough selling dvds, clothes, even worn shoes. And when we moved, we didn't have as much stuff to take with us!!
Hope this has helped....I know it was a super long post. Feel free to pm me with any questions!!
