Well, I answered my own question... The pattern I just looked at was completelely over my head... LOL! So my next question is... What is the best way to learn?
How did you start? I just had a friend show me the basic technique to make the washcloth but apparantly I have no clue what I'm even doing!

Do you know how to read the patterns (like all the abbreviations they use sc, dc, etc)? The hats should be pretty easy to get the hang of because most of them are just single or double crochet for the most part. I could help you figure it out, but it's always easier if you have someone around you to show you the ropes.

My mom showed me when I was a kid and then I picked it up "officially" when I was in college. Once you get going, it's easy. There's a couple of books out there that help you with step by step instructions and you have to be patient and realize that if you make a mistake you have to unravel it. That's truly how you learn, I think. I have a couple of instructions books that I've bought through the years that have helped me out and they have good pictures (I'm a visual person). Check your local stores cuz places like JoAnn's and such have classes to offer.
BTW - The kufis hats aren't even worth it to make because if you buy the kufis wholesale you spend WAY more than the $1.25 or so to make it with the time and money. A skein of yarn is like $3.00 and that's with no work added to it. Just my two cents. |

First you need to learn what the different parts of the pattern mean. http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/learntoread.html
Then read your pattern and figure out which stitches you need to practice. I think YOUtube has some tuts also. |

I know the basic single crochet. Do you know of any good places that offer a good class like hancock fabrics or somewhere like that? Do you think that would be something I should look into?

I'm actually wanting to make a hat with a small ruffle on the bottom and a crochet flower. I'm sure you've seen them. I want them to match their winter coats. Then, I would love to make those mary jane baby shoes for my 4 month old. I love learning new things so I figured I would take on the challenge.

She is not a crafty person at all!!! I get it from my grandma! She lives in TX so she isn't a ton of help to me though. These are what I would really love to be able to do... http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php..._desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title and http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...ng_id=33342876 |
