I also have washed some just b/c my girls got their dirty. didn't shrink. there are acrylic ones and there are cotton ones, so one would think. What color are they wanting, b/c the infants ones come in lots of colors now. Otherwise, I wonder if you can buy the white infant one and dye it????

If it's cotton, wash it in hot water and dry it completely on high heat.
But it won't shrink enough for a 4 month old...what about dying a white one? Quote:

If they are the 100% cotton ones they will shrink if washed in hot water and dried on high heat. You can also dye the if they are 100% cotton. I could not get the color I needed so I bought cream ones and dyed them and it worked fine.
