I didn't even make enough to pay for my booth. The garage sale stuff was junk and most of the craft booths weren't crafts at all. Most of it was stuff like Avon, Regal, Pampered Chef, etc. The people who came were either seniors, or people who only looked at the junk. I think the only one who made a little money was a guy selling sausages. Oh and there was this clown making balloon animals who kept making the balloons squeal on purpose the whole time because some kids found it funny. I have a feeling that it was the first time for most people, as it was so bad that I don't think anyone would do it again!

Alright Sarah, we're here for you. What happened?
Okay never mind you posted before I got mine up. Look at it this way, you know where not to go next year. I am by no way a guru as I have only done about five. When you go to your register for your next one, ask them some questions, such as how many people have come through in the past and how many others will be there selling merchandise like yours. I have never known anyone to do good at shows where it is a combo yard sale/craft show. When people hear/see the words yard/rummage/garage sale it puts them in a whole different frame of mind and it draws a different clientele. Now the thing for you to do is save all of your stuff, add to it and find you an "authentic" craft show. I know it's disapointing, but don't let it get you down. And hey, you should feel special that your husband took an interest. I think that might be a silver lining. I know alot of husbands don't do those types of things.

excellent words from Rene', especially about dh! that is so cool!
Anyway, you have now gained experience on how to transport your bows, set up, take down (whether you could of used the little toy cash register, lol!) and all those small things that add up to big things if not done right. It was a good way to "break in" to doing shows. But Rene' is right about yard sales/rummage sales/flea markets. People are looking for dirt cheap at those things. Don't get me wrong, I have gone to those things, too, but because I am looking for cheap stuff, lol! If I want the real deal, then I go to a bonafide craft and/or art fair. And most importantly, your dh helped you and tonight you two help each other celebrate what a marriage partnership should be! |
