Default Black Friday Weekend Craft Fair

I survived my first craft fair this weekend! There were 60+ booths at the 2-day fair and the space costed $100.

In talking to some of the other vendors I learned the state was really cracking down on unlicensed businesses, especially on Oahu. They advised me to display my GE license in the booth and make sure to give receipts and keep a tally for those that said they didn't want a receipt. They were handing out pretty stiff fines ($2,000) for failure to follow proper procedure - ugh! SO glad I got a license and brought it with me, better to be safe than sorry!

A couple of my girlfriends had booths there too (they were doing decorated tablets, jewelry and other paper art) and by far the runaway best-selling items for them and me were anything with Tokidoki or Hello Kitty. I didn't sell any ribbon sculptures (princess, flowers, animals) or stacked bows. Bottlecap jewelry did okay. Appliqued clippies did well at 3/$5 as did bottlecap clips for $3, and badge reels sold like crazy. I used wire dress forms to display flowers and pettis at the front of the booth.

LOVE my Square reader!!! With it I was able to turn $5 sales into $20+ sales. When people came to pay and saw we accepted cards they more often than not added a bunch of stuff to their purchase.

What surprised me was the pricing at some of the booths. There was a lady selling gorgeous hand-sewn 1-2 layer chrysanthemum kanzashi bobby pins and combs that her niece made for $3-$8! I wanted to buy them ALL but only had $6 in my pocket (she didn't take credit cards or checks) so I'm tracking her down this weekend at another craft fair to scoop some up

Anyway here's a few pics - completely forgot to take of the table . It was a great experience & I'm looking forward to the next one.

Grats! That's great that you had a good experience. I've never had to show my license, but I have one :-).
