~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had my first craft show today - I sold nothing I had lots of people look, tell me how nice, compliment my display, etc but nadda. I'm a bit bummed. I worked so hard, making 25 pairs of basic clippies, 130 boutique and pinwheel bows, 40 keyfobs and 10 tutus. There was one other woman selling keyfobs for $8 (I priced mine at $6) and a young girl whom I later found out was a senior at the hs was selling a few bows (our prices were the same) and headbands - the scarf type. She was across the way from me and seemed to sell a bit of the headbands. Overall I would say there were many more lookers than shoppers, not many people with bags and such and probably about 300 people or so.
To top it off, I forgot my camera at home so I have no pics
Just wanted to vent my disappointment. Thanks for listening.
I am so sorry to hear that. It may not have been the best place to go if there were only 300-ish shoppers. I'm sorry.
There will be better venues down the road. Don't give up!
300 people isn't very many. But you have gained the experience of setting up and taking down, etc. At least you have one under your belt, so to speak! It will get better!
Oh- I forgot to add that my very first "craft show" (that I actually don't count) was at a local elementary school. They contacted me and asked me to come over for a couple hours THE NEXT DAY. They wanted to make a shopping day for teachers during their conference periods. It was right before Christmas so it sounded awesome. RIGHT?
WRONG! I spent like $70-80 on last minute CONSUMABLE items (food and such). I paid for daycare. My husband took the morning off to help me get up there.
I *think* I sold around 20 bucks worth of stuff. I worked my ass off to get ready and be up there in less than 12 hours.... and sold very little.
Maybe we should start a thread for the Worst Craft Show experiences ever. I promise you that EVERYONE has had a crummy experience, or they got one coming. You just keep perservering!
So sorry Danielle. There were some good points though, as the ladies already said. Experience, inventory, set up experience.
Don't get discouraged.
Boy! Am I here for you!!!
I spent hours upon hours making bows and spending very little time with my family. I stayed up most nights until 2:00 making bows. I hand sew all my bows and am very picky about how they look. So, when I had my show this weekend I thought wow, I am not going to have enough! Didn't sell one of them!!!!
Makes you want to cry when you work so hard and only you know it. I hope you will use this as experience like me and keep on with your craft. My hubby and I now know how to set up a tent during very windy days and I know if rain is coming to waterproof my tent before hand.
The best to you!! Try again!!! I see so many girls who need bows in their hair!! Also, teen girls who wear those ratty single ribbons! We'll sell our bows soon!
Angelia
