wish I had a nice house for that sort of thing. Maybe closer to the holidays I might give it a try at my mom's house!

NO way! People would come just to learn how to make them! I bring premade bows and then let them special order everything else. I give them the option to pay for shipping directly to them or tell them I will drop them off at the hosts house and they can pick them up.

Sounds like an awesome idea. I have done something similar for the jewelery I sell for a company. I can usually make about $100 profit for each party (plus I usually earn a jewelery or two for my DD or myself). I perfer the jewelery thing because I can make money and don't have to work as hard for it as making bows

OK I need to get started. I really want to do this. My daughters have been competitive cheerleaders for about 7 years now and I could do this at the gym. I wouldn't even have to have a hostess. But it would get me started on other parties. I could also use my profits for their assessments. Great Idea!

ok I really want to do this too. Here is my next question. The lady that has expressed interest also wants to learn and already dabbles in making bows. I know this is why she mention doing it like a scrap book party, SO how do I turn it around without being rude to let her know that it wouldn't be a teaching class?

I would just say something to the effect of :

I know we didn't discuss the format of how the night will go, but just to let you know, I'll be bringing pre-made bows to the party. If anyone has special orders, I'd be glad to take them that night.

That makes it pretty clear that you're NOT teaching. If she asks if you are, then say:

No, I won't be teaching anything. Sorry if that was a miscommunication. If people are interested in a teaching class then I'd actually be 'charging' a pretty high ticket amount.

That should 'clear' things up.

I had someone approach me about teaching them how to make bows. I taught her some of the 'basics' but then she asked to learn more. I charged her $250 because I thought all the time I put into 'researching', trial and error, and 'notes' was worth it. It was an all day thing, and I provided lunch and all the tools. I had a glue gun, scissors, ribbon, EVERYTHING. I even typed up notes that she could take home. There was even space for her to 'diagram' things, and I encouraged her to take photos after every step. At the end, she had time to just recreate everything we went over. Overall I think it went really well.

Anyway, that's just a suggestion for you if you get pressure to 'teach'. If you had alot of people interested, you could charge a lower 'group price' and still make it worth your time.

Hope that helps!

Thank you very much, as I mentioned before I have , as it was referred to, "delayed intellegence" I alway think what I should have said 2-3 days later..LOL anyway those are both great advise and I would deffinatly think about the teaching class since you could still make it worth you time. Thanks again.

I think it's a great idea to refer them to TOTTs. It makes it alot easier!

I just wanted to clarify too, that I when I 'charged' my 'client', I didn't give out any instructions for anything on here. The only thing was the dragonfly, and at the time, I did them totally different from how they're posted here. (Mine are still a bit different) I also do a few 'little bows' that I haven't seen posted on here, but they're REALLY basic. That was also when I was using wire, and now I use the elastic thread.

I don't think anyone was implying that I was 'selling instructions' but I just wanted to make it clear so there wouldn't be any misunderstandings. The $$$ I charged was mostly for my time, and for the fact that I was giving one-on-one demo's when I had spent SOOOO much time with trial and error finding the most efficient and effective ways of making bows.
