Smile I am so disappointed! (Long!)

But not out!
I had my first "bow" market yesterday. I have been doing markets (what they are called Downunder!) for 3 years selling homemade statues which has always done really well. I fell in love making bows, clipees and headbands and decided yesterday was the day to premiere them.
I had a great stand, plenty of stock, good pricing and customers aplenty, but I could not sell a single one! That's right, not one!
People basically ignored them and went to my jewellery!
I only had 1 board of jewellery which saved the day. My sales in the jewellery covered costs and gave me approximately $200 in profit.
Admittedly the crowd was older, but surely some of them had grandchildren! There were a few families, but they never gave me a glance either. The day was heart wrenching for me, and when I came home, I just felt like crying.
Other stallholders could see what was happening, and were trying to direct people to me. (I know the locals well and we are all pretty close)
They all had really great days, some of them in excess of the $1000 mark.
They told me not to give up, it was just the wrong crowd, bad positioning and just luck of the day.
I hope they're right, but I am just feeling so sad at the moment! Best I make myself happy and make some more bows! Anyway, thanks for listening!
Karen

Keep your head up. It sucks when we have bad shows, but I'm sure the next one will turn out great.
I've had terrible shows myself (like not even making 1/2 of the space cost) then I've had terrific shows, where my inventory is depleated, and I'm wishing I'd had more.
I'm sure you have great items, just don't give up or take it personal!

Sorry that your premiere didn't go better. That's frustrating but I'm sure they won't all be like that

That same thing happened to my daughter (she makes the tutus and I make the hair stuff). She made only enough to cover her costs and was so disappointed, but the best item she had there were her business cards. A few days after her show she had heaps of phone calls and emails from people who saw her tutus (& my hair accessories) and wanted to order them. On the day they just didn't have enough money but have since ordered heaps, so just keep at it and put it down to experience. Good luck with the next show

Thankyou for your kind words everyone. I spent a lot of the day today making bows with the attitude of "why do I bother". As usual, I got involved, it was very soothing and I remembered why I make bows - because I love doing it , and that's the important thing!.
I'll give it another go, best I print up some business cards - I see Vistaprint have got a lot of freebies going again!
Thanks again!
Karen.
