Ok guys.. I haven't felt really well today, so I didn't get a chance to make the other flower pot. But I am going to try to give "quickie" directions here and do a "formal instruction" later when I feel a little more lively..
Supplies:
1- 6" terra cotta pot (Hobby lobby)
1- bar of floral foam (Hobby lobby)
1-48" tall x 1" wide x 1/4" thick piece of wood (Hobby Lobby in the art section)
1-large flower (again, Hobby lobby)
Hot glue gun
**shredded paper (I think I got this at the dollar store, it's the same stuff people put in gift baskets, bags, etc.) I used the natural/brown as it looks more like soil. You could use spanish moss if you wanted to. Just make sure it is "clean" ie-no red bugs...
Painted it w/ lime green acrylic paint. IMPORTANT!!! BE SURE TO SEAL YOUR FLOWER POT WITH SOME TYPE OF SEALER-inside and out!!!!! If not, any moisture will eventually make the paint bubble and peel off. Trust me on this, I have made that mistake!!
The dots are actually different size circles I cut from various colors of card stock and the used Modge podge to glue them to the pot. I put another coat of modge podge on top of the dots (followed manufacturers directions). Then put a glitter finish on it for some added bling. The dots pop a little more that way.
I also painted the wood stem dark green and sealed it. Once complete, I used 7/8" green ribbon and glued a strip from the top of the stem to about 5 inches from the bottom. I also placed glue about every 8 inches or so underneath the ribbon for added stability (I used fabric tac... that glue works on everything!!)
Once the pot is ready for assembly. I put a piece of duct tape in the bottom to cover the hole. The reason for this is so the floral foam doesn't shed onto any surfaces as it is very bad for little people.
Cut your floral foam to fit inside the pot, you will have to make several cuts and wedge different pieces to make it fairly secure. Then take your stem and push it down into the foam. I put a little hot glue just for more stability.
I took the flower head off of the stem, glued the petals, center together so that it wouldn't fall apart, then hot glued it to the top of the stem. I use a high temp glue gun and it really works well with this. I then pulled the remaining leaves from the original flower stem and glued them to the back of the wooden stem.
Then take your shredded paper and glue it on top of the craft foam to make it look like the flower soil.
I later added a ribbon around the rim of the pot and put a bow on it (not shown) just for added umph...
I hope I have not confused anyone too much and hope this helps.. Let me know if you need further help!!
