Do they make cordless woodburners??? Off to go Google it...
there was a great tip in an old post about keeping your wood burner in an empty coffee mug, that is how i store mine so it does not fall. also another great wood burner trick i got from someone here is cut your korkers while they are still on the wood dowl (with a wood burner) that was the most genius idea yet!! (i think her screen name is hypati, something like that,it is a black and white pic with her and her beautiful daughters) I want to give her full credit for that one because that has been a huge time saver for me!!!

I use a 6 inch metal ruler and a cookie sheet (on its back) I had marked with a sharpie, but after so many cuts there is now a permanent groove in the metal.
Good idea about the coffee mug!

I also use a cookie sheet for the wood burner and the metal ruler to cut the ribbon also a hard plastic cutting board for the glue gun, so I can take the drippings off easily. I used to use the cookie sheet for the glue gun too but it was a lot harder to take the drippings from the glue gun off.

Cutting the korker ribbon while still in the rod... I have to try that one, I always have problems with the korker ribbon been the same length.

Great ideas ladies!!!

But don't you make burns and grooves in the dowel with the wood burner? I know how dangerous I am with mine.

OOoooo!! I love the idea of cutting it on the dowel!

I couldn't find any cordless wood burners. I found some cordless soldering irons. Has anyone used one of those for heat sealing ribbon?

Thanks...I've got to try it! That was really the worst part of making korkers for me!

We had a soldering iron that also had a wood burning tip. I used it for the first few months I was making korkers but it was heavy. I'd guess there are much lighter versions.
I wanted a cordless option too, but opted instead to tuck the cord under my armpit while I'm using the woodburner. My husband laughs, but it keep the cord out of the way!
