Have y'all ever seen this before?

Everything Sewing/How To/Baby Barrette

Is there anyway a magnet could be harmful to a baby? If not, I am
making Lily some of these ASAP.

Those are neat. I would have never thought to use magnets. I will def. have to make some since my DD has very little hair. Thank you for sharing.

I've heard about them - but don't really care to try it. I would be interested to here how they work for you though. It seems to me that velvet plus a magnet would make it pretty bulky. I can't see that it would do any harm to a baby - other than the choking hazards.

I wonder if those kind of magnets are strong enough to do internal damage if swallowed. Neat Idea though..

Yeah. A magnet can cause all kinds of issues if swallowed. They recalled a bunch of Polly Pockets because of kids swallowing the magnets. I read an article about one little girl almost died and had to have surgeries to remove the magnets. I think she was only 3 or 4 years old. They can attach inside of you if swallowed. If they attach with any kind of organ tissue between them then they can make a hole in the tissue. It's a really big deal. Magnets for babies are incredibly unsafe. We got rid of all toys with magnets after that. I have 2 kids under 3 and I wont allow magnets around them. I would be concerned about the health of the babies as well as lawsuits from my customers That's one bow I will never attempt.

That's what I thought.....

It seems to me though that if there is enough hair for the magnet to attach to (in between) that there should be enough hair for hte alligator clip to hold to by itself. The ones I get are pretty tight.

Refrigerator magnets are probably not strong enough to cause the problems that all those toys were recalled for. The magnets that cause the intestinal blockage were rare earth magnets, and speaking from first hand experience with that sort of magnet, they are VERY strong.

However, I still wouldn't make that bow just because of the possible choking hazard of the magnet pieces. That sort of magnet can crack into pieces.
