it was the magnetix toys that were recalled... and I do not thing they were rare eath magnets... there were over 4million of those things sold... they were just plain old STRONG magnets

I used magnets on some of my DD's first clips. I didn't like it, it was really bulky, especially if you're using it in fine hair.

I think no slippy hair clippy uses round magnets. From what I see here is looks like there are only using a strip of magnet to the top only??? What about the top is there a magnet there to? I have some of the type of magnet here. It comes on a small roll and I found it at the hardware store.

the magnet holds to the top of the alligator clip. there is a cool tute somewhere for babies with little hair. you can "make the clip" out of ribbon and put velcro in the middle. no pieces to swallow or fall off. its here if you search for it!

Actually, they WERE rare earth magnets. They are a variety called Neodymium or NIB magnet. Neodymium magnet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If you scroll down the page they talk about their use in the Magnetix toys. Even though they're called rare earth magnets doesn't mean they're rare. The materials that they're made of are actually quite commonly found. The name came from a misconception that they rarely occurred naturally.

When I worked at a Mother's Day Out program we used the magnet tape. It wasn't strong enough to hold anything heavy on a fridge but it did work to hold small things together. I worked there over 3 yrs. ago and my son made me some artwork and the magnet has yet to crack. So I don't think it would do any harm. As for the choking, It is tape and I would think you put it on the clip and then line it so I don't think it could come off.

Is there anyway a magnet could be harmful to a baby? If not, I am
making Lily some of these ASAP.

i bought one not long ago and she uses the strip. Yup I was the stupid ass that paid 7.99 to take it apart. Now - she may also use the round magnet but on the one I had it was the strip.
