Those are WONDERFUL! I haven't put much thought into singed flowers, but after seeing this post, I spent at least an hour last night looking at photos of them, hints & tips, etc.

Love the idea of buying clothing at thrift stores to use as affordable & interesting fabric. Except... at the thought of it, I felt this sort of guilt... what if that item could have gone to someone who needed clothing, and would want to wear it? I think I'd have a hard time cutting into a dress, afraid that what I'd create wouldn't be worthy of the sacrifice of a garment. (I know, I know... I must sound so silly. But that waste-guilt is just what I feel.)

HOWEVER - then I remembered this very interesting article (actually, a book excerpt) that I read a couple of weeks ago, about the overabundance of clothing in our country, and where it all goes (much of it winds up garbage or pulped for compost/recycling anyway! This suprised me. I figured anything that wasn't purchased by Goodwill shoppers would surely wind up in the hands of someone who truly needed clothing, whether here in the US or in a developing nation).

Anyway - it's an interesting read. And I'm definitely going to be hitting a thrift store for some fabric soon.
