Default Re: Newbie with a quick question on stiffening grosgrain ribbon

I agree with Woodkins. I don't use fabrics stiffener on any bow I make including grosgrain. I don't ever seem to have any problems with the loops standing up perfectly fine. Sorry I can't be of any help.

thank you all for your help. I tried hairspray seems to work great. However, after they are set for a couple days, i've played with them and manipulated them and the hairspray seems to scratch and flake off. I'm a bit concerned because cheerleaders are very active and have a tendency to be rough on the bows during tumbling, that they wouldn't stand the test of time. Anyone have any experience with hairspray scratching and flaking off? Thanks!

Here again, I have cheerleaders who have worn bows I made for a few years now. Floppy loops never seem to be a problem. In fact, I have a tumbling Varsity Squad who is now wearing the same bows I made them last season, this season as well.

Can I ask what type and width size ribbon you're using? I normally don't make a bow that is based with anything less than 2 1/4" grosgrain ribbon (3" works even better).

I prefer 3" ribbon over anything and find that in most cases, it has become the preferred width for cheerleaders.

Hope that helps.
