Default Newbie Questions - bonding fabric to ribbon

Hello all!

I've been making cheer bows for several months, but one thing I've yet to master is the bonding of spandex like material to ribbon. I've tried a spray adhesive, and also Fabri-Tac (which is by far my glue of choice for ribbon). The spray adhesive doesn't hold well long term, and the Fabri-Tac shows "lumpy" through the fabric.

I've seen several of you reference the No Bow No Go tutorials, and wonder if that's what I need to review? I hate to spend the $$, however, because I have all other components of bow making down.

I'm also curious how to adhere the fabric in the "wave" pattern on the tails, where it's cut with a rotary cutter on a curve.

I bought some Heat N Bond tonight, maybe I just need to play with that?

Thanks in advance!

I use heat n bond you can buy it in sheets attach it to your wave pattern then attach that to your bow the NBNG tut. Is well worth it!

I use heat n bond as well. It holds together forever, well at least 8 years so far lol. As for the wave, make a templete on cardstock of how you like it to look. It may take a few times but it will be worth it in the end.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help! I will have to try it out.

I'm guessing it's easiest to cut the sheets of bond with a rotary cutter, just like fabric?

As for the wave design, is there a tutorial on cutting this template out?

And yes it is easier to cut HNB with a cutter like fabric.

I have not seen a tut on cutting the wave design, I just asked around in here and the great women on here gave me advice on how to do it.

Is there an area specifically for tutorials that I may be overlooking?

Can I DM you about the wave design?

It only looks like a wave because it is cinched in the middle. That actual template is a semi oval. Fold your ribbon in half and then from one end to the middle of the crease make a semi circle/oval and you should be all set. To see if it is right I just actually wrote on a 3 inch grosgrain the first time to see what it looked like when I tied it up, it took a little practice but you will find out what looks best. When I figured out the dimensions I just got a plexi glass template make out of it. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much, I have been trying to get the shape for a while and have been struggling with it.
